Eastern Scottish Night Service 1988 , ten to one, last bus arrives back at
waverly bridge its the 204 and it looks like the pizza kid is on that bus
(drivers sister who works in pizza shop) a wee munch for the hard working night
shift.
We all pile on the last bus not giving a thought to our own buses . Its monday
night , only the regulars are out and drunken drivers on way from from mcguffies.
We kept an eye on who was getting on they usually left money on the tray, some
even issued there own tickets...well.
We the watched 3 guys get in the first bus in the queue, it`ll be fine says
I ... no it wont was screamed as the bus started to pull away from the bus
stop, even had the cheek to indicate as he pulled out. Imagine the scene , pizza
evrywhere as we struggled out the door of the seddon ,we had to hoof it up onto
Princes street, to see the bus in the distance.
Feck was all that was said ...
The radio message to BoB our controller was a classic
"Err.... BoB we er lost a bus "
What do you mean lost a bus
Some bugger stole it
Silence for what could only have been 30 seconds but seemed to be an eternity
You could feel the despair in his voice "you are winding me up"
Eh no.
The day was only saved when across the radio came the call : its been abandoned
at Castle Street , thankfully not all of us legged it after it someone had the
sense to drive.
Management never found out about this little incident I dont think Metal Mickey
would have saw the funny side.
Good times on the night service at Eastern no wonder they took it off us and
gave it back to LRT
Rather not say
'THANKS FOR TRAVELLING SCUMBUS'
